Raiders of the Lost Ark

I usually don't watch action movies since they seem "guy-centered". You know, no plot, loads of action, that sort of thing. But if there's a good action flick, I check it out. Case in point, I'm reviewing Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones (Harrison Ford) has been informed that there's an expedition to find the Ark of the Covenant. But he also learns that the Nazis are after it as well, making it a race against time.

You gotta love a good ol' action movie. The plot isn't as ridiculous as the action movies of today. Spielberg manages to grab your attention from the opening to the credits. And you gotta love the opening scene. Truly epic.

My Rating: *****

  1. I love action movies and I'm a female. Action is my favorite genre to pass time with, but I always think of Indy as action adventure, just more entertaining across to board to everyone, men women and children alike. And who can argue this being the best of the bunch?

  2. One of my all-time top five films.

If you really want to get the whole experience, try to see it on a big screen sometime. (A bucket of popcorn doesn't hurt either).

One little note (something I didn't realize until very recently)...did you notice how little heroics Indy actually does? He never manages to actually thwart the Nazis so much as he slows them down a bit and causes a whole lot of property damage.

    Weird detail, no?

  3. I really did enjoy this film about 5 years ago but I think now I enjoy it more, after the blasphemer at the alter of a good franchise that was Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Raiders of the Lost Ark seems better for its simple wholesome action value.

  4. I think if ever there was an action movie people who don't like action movies would like it's Raiders of the Lost Ark! But Raiders is a lot more than just an 'action' movie - it's an adventure story, and a great one at that. That's something everyone can get into when they want to be entertained. I'd recommend the sequels too, Anna. Although Last Crusade is better than Temple of Doom.
