THX 1138

Imagine living life without emotions. You can't cry when a loved one dies. You can't laugh when you enjoy something. You can't even love.

The characters in George Lucas' THX 1138 go through this encounter. They're forced to take drugs to suppress emotions. But some have stopped taking the required drugs and have become aware of their government's control.

There is an air of irony that white, which symbolizes purity, is the main color used throughout THX 1138. It's ironic considering that some of the characters have been found guilty of drug violation, all for merely not taking the drugs.

Lucas, who is better known for that sci-fi movie, gives us a tale of dystopian despair. One can become willing to do everything and anything for a chance at freedom. But one can risk everything and anything for that freedom.

My Rating: ****1/2
