Fifteen Years: A Retrospective

Well, I never thought I'd reach this milestone. Fifteen years of running this modest blog. (In fairness, I never thought I'd make it past five years of doing this. So to celebrate the very thing I've been sporadically working on for half my life now, I thought I'd go over the various highs and lows I endured. More after the jump.

2,000 Posts!

Frankly, I'm surprised to have been going at this for as long as I have, what with Defiant Success's fifteenth (!) anniversary in August.

Admittedly, a good chunk of the posts here aren't reviews but I'm still counting them for the impressive tally of two thousand posts since August 2009. Obviously, I would've made a bigger deal out of it but it slipped my mind and today's something of a somber anniversary for me (it's been eleven years since my father died suddenly). And my blogging has been sporadic these last few years courtesy of current events and my own mental health but I'll try to make up for lost time.

Anyway, here's to 2,000 posts and to another 2.000.

Ten years!

Would you believe that on this day a decade ago, I started this little blog?

Jeez.

It amazes me that this little old blog is still up and running. I know my output has been sporadic as of late but hopefully those overdue reviews should be up within a week or so. ("Hopefully" being the key word in that statement.)

Anyway, to think this all started out of sheer boredom on this day seven years ago. I've met some really nice people because of my writing (and through Twitter), and I hope this will continue as more time wears on.

Here's to the coming years.

Can you believe that Defiant Success has now been running for six years? I didn't even think it would last this long but here we are. Sure, my own life has had its ups and downs recently but I do try to keep this blog alive.

Here's to another year.

My blog turns five today.

I know my efforts in keeping Defiant Success thriving have been lacking for the past several months or so (I contribute both recovering from attending TIFF last September and my own personal issues as to why the blog's been lagging) but I assure you, I don't intend to end this blog anytime soon. Not with all these movies coming out throughout this year.

Here's to the coming years (and movies).

Announcement

I know I haven't been blogging as much lately. It's mostly because of lack of drive, and I apologize for it. But that doesn't mean Defiant Success is closing its doors. There is, however, something I want to say in regards with the blog.

As some of you may know, I do a book and movie comparison post at the beginning of every month. Well, I've decided to tone down the frequency of said feature. Instead of every month, it will now be whenever I feel like doing such a post. On a similar note, I intend to review more books for this blog.

Blogging shall resumed later this week.

I'm truly sorry.

I feel somewhat guilty for not providing new material for the blog as of late. The truth is, I'm away on vacation and my interest in doing anything productive goes right out of the window. Long story short, there'll be a brief hiatus for the remainder of the month. Don't fret, I will be back for August. In the meantime, enjoy what's here at the moment.

I'm sorry.

Really, I did not mean to go missing from this blog for the past week or so. I've just been feeling unmotivated in regards with my writing. I've been thinking about closing this blog but not on a serious level. But believe me when I say this blog will be up and running again tomorrow.

Announcement

Just to let you know that I'm taking some time off from the blog. (There'll still be the monthly feature on Monday though.) The main reason is because I'm doing some serious TV catch-up in regards with Doctor Who and Mad Men (and perhaps Breaking Bad). I'll probably take a week off, then I'll be back.

In the meantime, enjoy the rest of this site.

Goodness.

Has it really been three years since I started this blog? If so, holy crap.

I'll keep this short, sweet and to the point. I got to know more bloggers in the last year, but that's expected if you're as devoted to blogging as me. I managed to hone the way I write. Who know where I'll be in a year.

I thank those who have been reading what I wrote, whether since last week or the very beginning. Does this mean I'm slowing down? Don't even think about it.

FYC: Defiant Success

Well, it's that time of year again for members of the Large Association of Movie Blogs (or LAMB, as we're so affectionately called). First year I ran I got nothing. It's more than last year, but come on. I've been blogging for almost three years now. I deserve to be a little selfish. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go to the bank because of...reasons.

Golly.

Another year has gone by. This blog is now two years old. If you noticed what happened last month, it appeared that I was starting to lose interest in writing. It wasn't that; it's not easy writing with a deadline every day. You need a break every once in a while.

In the past year, I got acquainted with other bloggers, both rookies and veterans of the online critic world. Most of them I introduced to movies I saw (and sometimes books I read), others I had similarities with in the sense of movies. All in all, I met new people that I wouldn't have met had I kept my mouth shut.

Anyway, I thank those who stop by on a regular basis to comment, those who I talk to on Twitter periodically, and those who supported my work since the beginning or have just started to. I hope I'll be around for a while.

(Oh, one more thing. There won't be a BOOK VS. MOVIE feature this month. Sorry.)
