Seven Movie Questions Meme

Having seen the success of He Shot Cyrus' 10 Movie Facts About Me Meme, I decided to start one of my own. It's only a few questions, really.

1) What was you first movie-going experience?

2) How many DVDs do you own?

3) What is your guilty pleasure movie?

4) You have compiled a list of your top 100 movies. Which movies didn't make the cut?

5) Which movie(s) do you compulsively watch over and over again?

6) Classic(s) you're embarrassed to admit you haven't seen yet?

7) What movie posters do you have hanging on your wall?

I'm not answering these because I'm more curious on what other bloggers have to say. Speaking of which, I should mention them:

~ Univarn of A Life in Equinox: A Movie Lover's Journal
~ Alex of Film Forager
~ Julian Stark of Movies and Other Things...
~ Danny King of The King Bulletin
~ Matthew Lucas of From the Front Row
~ The Mad Hatter of The Dark of the Matinee
~ Andrew of Encore's World of Film & TV
~ Candice Frederick of Reel Talk
~ Fletch of Blog Cabins
~ John Gilpatrick of John Likes Movies

Okay then, that's it! Get those posts up! GO!

UPDATE: When I said "get those posts up", I meant on your blog not in the comments.

  1. Nice post--thanks for the invite!

    1) hmmm...i THINK it was either The Little Mermaid or Malcolm X (My mom was gonna kill me about the latter)

    2) 13 (I'm a netflix fan)

    3) too many to count, but Fools Rush In comes to mind.

    4) um...ANY Tyler Perry movie

    5) Fools Rush In, Rush Hour (1, 2 OR 3)

    6) Color Purple (in its entirety), as well as Godfather and Coming To America (they're on my to watch list!)

    7) At the moment, just Michael Jackson's This Is It (in the process of moving so I've got much more to hang up)

  2. 1) The first one I remember is "Free Willy." I think my sister started crying, so we had to leave. I must've been 4. The first adult-ish film I remember seeing in theaters was "Walk the Line." Didn't like it very much, but I thought it was kind of cool that I saw a critically acclaimed movie as opposed to the normal superhero stuff that I usually saw when I was a teenager. The first adult film I saw that I really liked was "Good Night, and Good Luck." I think that's one of the first movies I saw that made me love film. It's also one of the reasons I love George Clooney so much.

    2) Jeez, probably around 400 or 500. Kind of sad, really. I buy new DVDs every few weeks. I usually tell myself I'm buying them to celebrate some sort of occassion. I just bought "Alien," "The Graduate," and "The French Connection" in order to celebrate the fact that I got an A on a paper. Yeah, that's a pretty big celebration nowadays.

    3) If by that you mean a film I like that most people don't, the biggest is probably "Southland Tales." Despite being poorly acted and all over the place, I found it really interesting and strangely entertaining. And not in a "so bad it's good" sort of way. I genuinely liked it. From the past year, I actually really liked "The Lovely Bones."

    4) I actually only have a list of 50. I feel obligated to see a lot more classic films before I expand it to 100 and make it public. What highly respected films didn't make the cut? "Raging Bull," "Gone With the Wind," "Midnight Cowboy," and "Vertigo" are a few that are coming to mind. All have their merits, but they aren't my favorites.

    5) The movie I've probably seen the most is "The 40-Year-Old Virgin." Few films make me laugh as much as that one, even after seeing it 25, 30 times. Some others that I watch a lot: "Michael Clayton," "The Dark Knight," "Little Miss Sunshine," "Superbad," and "Gone Baby Gone." Ironically, a lot of them are comedies, despite the fact that comedies are really hit or miss for me. But when I like one, I like it a lot.

    6) Oh, so many! Just to name a few: "Rear Window," "North by Northwest," "Apocalypse Now," "Shawshank Redemption," "City Lights," "Aliens." I'm also sadly behind on classic foreign films. I've never seen a Kurosawa or Bergman film. The only Fellini film I've seen is "8 1/2." I've also never seen "The Battleship Potempkin" or "M."

    7) "Requiem for a Dream" and "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King"

  4. 1) What was you first movie-going experience?
The Lion King - I don't remember seeing the movie, but my parents tell me that it was my first time at the theater. I'm proud to say that I began my theater-going career with a classic.

    2) How many DVDs do you own?
    Well over 100.

    3) What is your guilty pleasure movie?
Ooh. Tricky one. There are so many. Um, some of them are... Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Mamma Mia!, Fame (the remake), and that's just the tip of the iceberg

    4) You have compiled a list of your top 100 movies. Which movies didn't make the cut?
I haven't made a list of my top 100 movies actually...

    5) Which movie(s) do you compulsively watch over and over again?
I haven't actually done that in a while, but I watch The Devil Wears Prada every time it comes on FX

    6) Classic(s) you're embarrassed to admit you haven't seen yet?
Where to begin? Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Godfather, A Streetcar Named Desire, Some Like It Hot... again, just the tip of the iceberg

    7) What movie posters do you have hanging on your wall?
    (500) Days of Summer, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Sherlock Holmes, and The Soloist

  5. 1) What was you first movie-going experience?

    - To be honest, I find this a very tough question to answer because I know that any answer I give will be inaccurate. The one that burns in my mind the most, however, is when I saw "Passion of the Christ." I think I spent half of the movie crying and covering my eyes, and I haven't seen it since then. Although I feel like I should.

    2) How many DVDs do you own?

    - I probably own upwards of 100, but the amount that I buy has significantly dropped since I bought Netflix. I think the only DVDs I bought from 2009 were "Basterds," "Hurt Locker," and "Up in the Air."

    3) What is your guilty pleasure movie?

    - My newest one would be Pedro Almodovar's "Broken Embraces." Such a visually stimulating film, with a emotional and seductive performance from Penelope Cruz.

    4) You have compiled a list of your top 100 movies. Which movies didn't make the cut?

    - I have not done this. There are way too many films/classics that I have not seen.

    5) Which movie(s) do you compulsively watch over and over again?

    - "The Dark Knight" is the movie I have seen the most. I also usually watch "Hoosiers" every year around March Madness and "The Natural" during the beginning of baseball season.

    6) Classic(s) you're embarrassed to admit you haven't seen yet?

    - So many. A few: "Casablanca," "Sunset Blvd," "Schindler's List."

    7) What movie posters do you have hanging on your wall?

The four I bought were "The Dark Knight," "Requiem for a Dream," "There Will Be Blood," and "The Godfather." And recently at a showing of "Greenberg," there were free small posters lying around, so I picked one up.
